Pakistan is constantly under an educational crisis and the reason is the shortage of educational resources and quality institutes. In Pakistan, it is annually observed that millions of children are out of school. Even those children that are regularly attending schools are either facing financial issues or poor teaching qualities.
It is very necessary to increase the enrollment figure at Pakistan’s educational institutes. Unfortunately, our authorities are not paying much attention towards this issue. According to a recent survey, Pakistan has been recorded as having the second-highest number of out of school children across the world.
Out of School Children in Pakistan
Another educational issue that Pakistani children are facing is the pathetic teaching process. Students are simply taught to cram notes or subjects rather than learning something new or innovative. For positive growth, children should be directed to use their abilities and talents to pursue and open up new ways in life. Cramming notes results in early drop out as many students are weak in this process. So, these couldn’t make it possible to stand with the rest of the class. This is hailed as one of the biggest reasons for out of school children in Pakistan.
Then comes the learning level. In Pakistan, there are very few students who can actually write a sentence free of grammatical or vocabulary mistakes in grade 3. When it comes to the English subject. Many students are failed in their attempt to write an error-free sentence. The percentage of students who can actually perform mathematics correctly and error-free English is very low. Most of the students are just cramming what their teachers taught them.
The situation of out of school children in Pakistan even gets worst in the rural or remote areas of the country. In these areas, people do not lay stress upon educated their children, particularly the girls. They are encouraged to take interest in household chores rather than merely going to the schools. This mentality affects the overall percentage of the out of school children in Pakistan.
Annual Status of Educational Report (ASER)
According to the Annual Status of Educational Report (ASER), almost 40% percent of students belonging to the rural schools of the country are even unable to write or read a sentence in Urdu. These schools may be public or private but the results are quite pathetic. Children who made it possible to reach the 5th grade at the school level can read and write an Urdu story.
Another problem that we face while living in Pakistan is language. We are trilingual people. Most of the children in Pakistan are finding problems in this regard. Our mother language includes different languages like Punjabi, Sindhi, Saraiki, and Balochi. However, in schools, children are taught to speak Urdu and write English. So, children get confused with the use of these languages.
Moreover, in schools, students are not provided basic instructions to either of the languages i.e. English, Urdu, and Punjabi. As a result, students failed to grab the essence of these languages and he is being dropped out of the school for not performing up to the curriculum.
Children in Pakistan
In order to lessen the out of school children in Pakistan, we need a uniform and regular system that works on it. Proper plans and reforms should be made and then authorities should make sure that strict action has been taken upon these reforms and plans. Only through proper management and planning, we can overcome this issue.
