How to do CSS in Pakistan?

The objective behind the CSS exams to shortlist all those candidates that are not only well-skilled and disciplined but well-mannered as well. These candidates are selected in 12 different divisions, the details of which have been given below,

  3. Postal Service Group
  4. Commerce and Trade Services
  5. District Management Group
  6. Foreign Service of Pakistan
  7. Custom and Excise Service
  8. Office Management Group
  9. Police Service of Pakistan
  10. Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service
  11. Military Lands and Cantonments Group
  12. Railways (Commercial and Transportation Group)

The CSS exam occurred giving no importance to the creed, caste, family background, gender, or color. Usually, all those people who are goal-oriented appear in the CSS exam. It is pertinent to note that the CSS exam is held by the federal government.

In Pakistan, CSS is surely the most challenging one, for the candidates who aspire to be the federal employees under the position BS-17. Unwrapping different areas of the understanding and acting upon strict disciplines, the CSS exam is surely one of the most challenging as well as the most demanding exams.

CSS scholarship in Pakistan

As I have mentioned above the CSS exam is one of the most challenging and demanding exams held in Pakistan. Different universities, colleges (Private or Government), and educational institutes are offering a huge number of scholarships to the students who are facing financial problems but want to study further to make it to a bright future. These universities and colleges are particularly offering CSS scholarship programs to the students. The students who need scholarships are contacted inside and outside the country. The CSS scholarship given to the students helps them in appearing for the CSS exam. Students can take admission to any well-reputed institute that is aimed at making individuals prepared enough to appear for the CSS exam.

How to select subjects for CSS?

CSS exam is divided into four basic types that test a candidate’s skills, mental abilities, and knowledge. These tests are,

  • Theory Test
  • Medical Test
  • Psychological Test
  • Viva Voce

In this article, we will only discuss the theory section that is comprised of 12 papers. Out of 12 papers, 6 papers are compulsory while the rest of the 6 papers are optional. The passing % for both compulsory and optional papers is different. In order to pass the compulsory papers, candidates must score 40% marks while for the optional papers, 33% marks are necessary for the clearance of the exam.

There has been given a list of all the compulsory as well as optional papers by the Federal Public Service Commission. The candidate selects the subject as per his educational degree.

The list of compulsory subjects

The list of all the compulsory subjects have been updated below,

  1. English (Precis and Composition)
  2. English Essay
  3. General Science and Ability
  4. Current Affairs
  5. Pakistan Affairs
  6. Islamic Studies or Alternative subject for Non-Muslims

Note: It is worth noticing that each paper carries 100 marks. So, the total marks for the compulsory subjects are 600.

The list of optional subjects

For the ease of the students, the optional subjects or papers are further divided into seven different categories and students are directed to select their desired subjects accordingly.

Group 1 

In the below-mentioned subject list, the candidates are required to select only one subject,

  1. Accountancy and Auditing
  2. Economics
  3. Computer Science
  4. Political Science
  5. International Relations

Group 2

In this category, candidates can select one or more than one subject carrying 200 marks

  1. Chemistry
  2. Pure Mathematics
  3. Applied Mathematics
  4. Geology
  5. Physics
  6. Statistics

Group 3

In this category, the candidates are required to select only one subject,

  1. Public Administration
  2. Business Administration
  3. Government and Public Policies
  4. Town Planning and Urban Management

Group 4

In this group, the candidates are required to select only one subject,

  1. Islamic History and Culture
  2. History of Pakistan and India
  3. British History
  4. European History
  5. History of the USA

Group 5 

In this category, the candidates are required to select only one subject,

  1. Gender Studies
  2. Agriculture and Forestry
  3. Environmental Sciences
  4. Zoology
  5. Botany
  6. English Literature
  7. Urdu Literature

Group 6 

In this group, the candidates are required to select only one subject,

  1. Law
  2. International Law
  3. Constitutional Law
  4. Criminology
  5. Mercantile Law
  6. Philosophy
  7. Muslim Law and Jurisprudence

Group 7 

In this category, the candidates are required to select only one subject,

  1. Journalism and Mass Communication
  2. Phycology
  3. Geography
  4. Anthropology
  5. Sociology
  6. Punjabi
  7. Pashto
  8. Balochi
  9. Sindhi
  10. Arabic
  11. Persian

Note: From the above-mentioned categories, any optional subject carrying 200 marks can be selected. In case if your desired subject carries 100 marks, you have to select another subject carrying 100 marks to make it equivalent to the 200 marks.
