Importance of Education in Islam

Seeking knowledge has been made obligatory for both men and women. In the Quran, Allah Almighty has explained in Surah Al-Zumr that,

“Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know?”

Meanwhile in Surah Baqarah, Allah Almighty has said that “Allah grants wisdom to whom He pleases and to whom wisdom is granted indeed he receives an overflowing benefit.”

The modern-day education has completely reconstructed the educational programs making them relevant to the modern world needs. Today the world is producing philosophers, scientists, economists, and statesmen, all because of education and seeking knowledge.

Hadees in Urdu about Education

We should follow what our beloved Prophet (PBUH) has taught us. We should not be among the disbelievers. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) has put a great emphasis on the importance of education.

In the words of our beloved Holy Prophet (PBUH), “A single scholar of religion is more formidable against Shaytaan than a thousand devout persons.”

The Urdu Translation of the above-mentioned Hadees is,

“Shaytaan Ke Khilaf Mazhab Ka Ak Bhi Alaam Ak Hazaar Aqeedat Mand Afrad Sy Zyada Taqatwar Hai.”

Hadees about Education in Urdu

At another moment, Holy Prophet stated that “The position of only two persons is enviable; the person whom Allah bestowed wealth empowering him to spend it in the way of righteousness, and the person whom Allah gave wisdom with which he adjudges and which he teaches to others.”

The Urdu Translation of the above-mentioned Hadees is,

“Siraf do afrad ki haseeyat qabl-e-rashak hai; wo shaksh jis ko Allah ny maal ata kia tha k wo isy naik rasty me kharch karny ki taqat ata kary, aur wo shaksh jis ko Allah ny hikmat di jis k sath wo fesla karta hai aur jisy wo dusron ko taleem deta hai.”

“The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for all Muslims.”

“Ilm Hasil Karna tmam Musalmanon pr farz hy.”

“Acquire knowledge and impart it to the people.”

“Ilm Hasil Karen aur Logon tak pohanchayen.”

“A father gives his child nothing better than a good education.”

“Ak Baap apny bachy ko achi taleem sy behtar aur kch nahi dy skta.”

“Knowledge from which no benefit is derived is like a treasure out of which nothing is spent in the cause of God.”

“Wo Ilm jis sy koi faida hasil nahi hota is khazany ki tarha hai jis me sy khuda ki raah me kuch bhi kharch nahi hota.”

Being a true Muslim, it has been made necessary upon us to acquire knowledge and then to make good use of that acquired knowledge. We can only grasp the true and literal meanings of Islam if we have knowledge. We have to understand what Allah Almighty has explained in the Quran and what were the ways and methods of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) that he has explained to us to live a well-balanced life. Without knowledge, we are unable to find out the depths and meaning of the Quran. Without knowledge, we are unable to have faith and belief in our beloved Prophet (PBUH). Knowledge is indeed out Creator’s biggest gift that he has bestowed upon us.

It has been said that the example of a person who is devoid of knowledge is like he is walking on a track where there is nothing but darkness all around. So, there on his way to the darkness he can be easily manipulated towards the wrongs by Shaytaan, who is an open enemy of Allah. No Muslim would like to follow the path of Shaytaan rather than Allah’s.

The following Hadith will explain the importance of knowledge,

“He who acquires knowledge acquires a vast portion. And if anyone going on his way in search of knowledge, God will, thereby make easy for him the way of paradise.”

The Urdu Translation of the above-mentioned Hadees is,

“Jo Ilm Hasil Karta hy wo Bht Bara hissa Hasil Karta hy. Aur agar koi ilam ki talash mei apni raah pr gamzan hota hy to khuda is k zariye jaanat ki raah assan kr dy ga.”

May Allah Almighty open up positive knowledge upon us and make us practice and preach that knowledge to others as well. Aameen!
